Our story
The origins of
the GIGL project
Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust secured a Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund (NEIRF) grant, match funded by Anglian Water, CATCH, Humber Nature Partnership, Lincolnshire County Council and the Trust itself.
This grant was used to build consensus across key stakeholders within Greater Lincolnshire on the above vision and mission, and to build understanding of what a marketplace based on natural capital should consider and how it might operate.
This resulted in the formation of GIGL Ltd, a company limited by shares, solely owned by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.

Our commitment
Supporting Greater Lincolnshire
We are proud to support local people and businesses. By fostering strong, collaborative partnerships, we contribute not only to the growth of our community but also to the restoration and protection of the natural environment that sustains it.
Our work is driven by the belief that nature and people can thrive together — and we are committed to ensuring that every project we support helps create a more biodiverse, resilient, and sustainable future.

Collaboration
United for nature
We have collaborated with all Local Planning Authorities in Greater Lincolnshire, as well as developers, local landowners, and numerous partnerships focused on the natural environment. We have aligned our efforts with spatial plans, contributing to net zero targets and delivering towards nature’s recovery.
This way of working in partnership aims to deliver multiple outcomes and ensures real gains for biodiversity, both on land and at sea. It also leads to communities having greater access to nature where relevant, while delivering multiple benefits for society across the region.

Our mission
Making biodiversity
work for everyone
To create a fair, equitable and transparent market in natural environment asset trading across Greater Lincolnshire to ensure a vibrant and prosperous green investment economy that delivers for people and wildlife.
Our mission is simple yet vital, and we will enable landowners to develop projects that generate biodiversity and water units, while helping developers and other buyers meet their voluntary, corporate responsibility and mandatory requirements.
We will also work with our marine partners, to develop novel and innovative solutions at sea.
We understand that biodiversity is not just a regulatory obligation - it is essential for the long-term health of our planet, local ecosystems, and communities.
We recognise that landowners know their land best, and we are committed to working closely with landowners, valuing their knowledge and ensuring that the viability of their businesses is also a priority. Together, we can create solutions that benefit both people and wildlife.
